Ashford Castle is located in the town of Cong. The film The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, was filmed in Cong and the surrounding area including Ashford Castle. The castle sits on the banks of the Lough Corrib and offers a beautiful view of the lake and the islands that dot the lake.

On the 21st August 1879 Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist appeared at the south gable of Knock Parish Church. The apparition was witnessed by fifteen people, young and old. From this miraculous occurrence Knock has grown to the status of an internationally recognised Marian Shrine.
